The off-season land management practices as well as the cultural measures during cropping significantly influenced the weed flora and yield of rice in both the seasons. Ploughing the land twice, during off-season followed by twice hand weeding in thecrop, recorded the least weed counts and highest weed control indices of 78.8 and 81.6 percent, favouring higher grain yield of 5.91 and 5.54 t ha~(-1) during first and second seasons, respectively. Raising green manure of Sesbania aculeata was observedto reduce the weed competition in succeeding rice. Incorporation of pressmud at 10 t ha~(-1)+azolla inoculation at 1 t ha~(-1) was comparable with twice hand weeding and better than butachlor, regarding weed control and yield in rice-rice sequence. Integrating the off-season land management with crop weed control measures offered significant carry over effect of weed control in suppressing the weed competition during succeeding crops.
