Seven senators have called on Vice President Joe Biden to help settle a dragged-out fight over trade in solar energy products between firms operating in the United States and China by bringing the various U.S. industry stakeholders on board with a unified proposal that could be used to spur talks forward with Beijing. The U.S. industry has been dogged by bitter divisions over the trade spat, due to their conflicting commercial interests. U.S. makers of solar cells and panels stand at odds with U.S. producers who assemble panels from Chinese cells and installers who demand cheaper equipment. Suppliers of polysilicon - a key input in solar cell manufacturing - have been caught in the middle, and are reeling over the threat of retaliation against their exports to China.
