Me Fayden et al. fill an important gap of knowledge since there is a lack of prospective randomized studies comparing different types of fixation for distal radius fractures. The use of percutaneous pinning is a widely spread technique. However, the existing literature does not provide strong evidence of good results, especially for a mixed age population.1 Although it seems to have a lower risk of malunion than conservative treatment with a cast, the complication rates is at least the same as other more effective treatments options.2 It should also be noticed that the existing literature usually presents a mixture of stable and unstable fractures which makes these results difficult to interpret. Although we firmly believe that this study clearly states the advantage of using volar plates over percutaneous pinning, we would like to highlight several shortcomings of this study design.
