摘要

Three litters of Hampshire piglets (n = 22) were weaned at 4, 5 or 6 weeks of age. The average birth weight of the piglets ranged from 867.14 to 885.71 g. Body weight was recorded at fortnightly intervals up to 12 weeks of age. Overall average bodyweight gain was 173.60?.79, 159.08?.39 and 193?.77 g/day for piglets weaned at 4, 5 and 6 weeks of age respectively (all P<0.05). Mortality was higher in the group weaned at 4 weeks of age (3 piglets) than in the other groups (1 piglet per group). Itwas noted that the group weaned at 4 weeks of age required extra care and management, and that separation from the sow was not as easy as for the other groups. It was concluded that piglets should be weaned at 6 weeks of age under conditions in India.
