摘要

The third tenet of the Ecohydrology Paradigm can be expressed as follows – to use scientific knowledge of the dual relationship between hydrology and biota (the first two tenets) to achieve the sustainable management of water resources. Integrated Management of river basins (IRBM, also called Integrated Water Management, IWM, or Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM)) is the mechanism by which water managers and scientists in almost all countries of the world, apply this tenet. The first two – (1) that hydrology regulates the biota in aquatic systems and (2) that the biota can be manipulated to regulate hydrological processes (including hydrochemistry and geomorphology) – are the basis for most of the scientific research that underpins such integrated management.
