A procedure is proposed for a quantitative description of the molecular distribution in partially ranked paramagnetic samples. A computer program for simulation of angular dependences of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra is developed for centers with one unpaired electron and one magnetic nucleus. The molecular distribution is approximated by a parametric function; parameter values are fitted from the comparison of the experimental EPR spectra with the simulated ones. The films of copper(II) dipivaloylmethanate obtained by sedimentation on quartz plates were used as a model system for testing this procedure. It was found that during slow sedimentation, a highly ordered thin film covered the sample surface (layer A). Further, another ordered layer (layer B) covered the initial film. Sometimes, as the result of sedimentation, a significant part of a disordered phase appeared. It is shown that all the variety of ranked films of copper(II) dipivaloylmethanate may be described as a sum of the above three phases with different ratios. It was found that a uniform magnetic field has no effect on the layer structures, whereas the magnetic field gradient violates the axial distribution of the molecules. [References: 7]
