At the recent DSM meeting -Towards a Bright and Sustainable Poultry Production - there were papers of interest to our readers which we will summarise here. The first of these presentations was entitled 'Effective feed formulation for broilers using combinations of enzymes' and was presented by Rick Klein of Spesfeed (Pty) Ltd of South Africa. In introducing the subject Rick highlighted that enzymes improve all areas of nutrition by improving ingredient utilisation, optimising gut function and health, improving the technical efficiency of the bird and improving the economics of feeding. He focused on phytases and enzymes that improve the digestion of protein and energy.
