The oil-field services sector used the fourth-quarter earnings season to warn investors, and customers, of tough times ahead. With the lower oil price and the global economic crisis pushing international oil companies (IOCs) and national oil companies (NOCs) to delay or even cancel some big projects, the capital expenditure on which the services sector relies is coming under real pressure, pushing big services players to slash spending, cancel rig orders and cut jobs.
