A US federal judge has ruled that a piv- otal case in the mountain of litigation stemming from the fatal blowout and oil spill at BP's Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico will go to trial in early 2012. US District Judge Carl Barbier ordered the eight-week, non-jury trial to start on Feb. 27 of that year. It will address which of the defendants — including BP, rig- owner Transocean and others — was re- sponsible for the disaster and determine their share of the blame. However, it will not assess monetary damages.
