Gazprom Neft will this year spend $215 million upgrading its Serbian Pancevo refinery in line with plans to develop Serbia’s Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), in which Russia’s fifth-largest oil producer bought a 51% stake last year. Gazprom Neft says the refinery upgrade - for completion in 2012 - aims to improve fuel quality. Once the modernization is complete, 100% of the output will meet European specifications. This year NIS plans to boost euro-grade diesel output by 30%. Upstream plans include boosting oil production by 12% this year from 922,000 tons of oil equivalent in 2009 and increasing oil and gas reserves by 8%.
