In the United States, two thirds of traumatic hyphemas occur after blunt trauma and one third from a lacerating injury, with the majority of injuries occurring during sports. When a moving object hits the globe, it can distort the eye, leading to an equatorial stretching and posterior displacement of the lens-iris diaphragm.4 This stretching can produce tears in the anterior face of the ciliary body and iris vessels.
