摘要

Engineers are expected to collaborate with other disciplines so that a building is constructed safely, economically and with due regard to its performance during its expected life. It is essential, therefore, that the design assumptions are justifiable for the assembly of all products and for achieving safety and serviceability of the building. Simultaneously, it is essential to eliminate or reduce any potential hazards and provide information on issues that are likely to present residual hazards, including measures essential for long-term performance of the assembly of products. This information is used by the contractor for the construction stage and included in the Health and Safety File, a part of the hand-over documentation, for the benefit of those responsible for post-construction maintenance. CDM Regulations have a structured procedure to achieve these objectives, which are not different in principle to those expected from professional engineers as a part of their ethical duties.
