Focused on providing a ready resource of seasoned, technically prepared personnel for the offshore oil and gas industry, Houston-area operators and contractors are joining efforts to create an effective mentoring strategy for newly graduated engineers and those new to the industry. The collaborative effort is intended to help narrow the generational gap of well-trained engineers when experienced hands reach retirement age. The industrywide initiative, called the New Entrant Training Program, is under way, helping to recruit, train and ready engineers to face the offshore industry's increasing challenges, particularly in deep water, where risk increases exponentially.
