Biological Inorganic Chemistry (Second Edition, 2012) by Robert R. Crichton offers a wide view of the properties and roles of metal ions in the biological world. As the study of biological inorganic chemistry increasingly demands interdisciplinary approaches and understandings, there is a commensurate need for both teachers and researchers to learn material beyond their original training. In this spirit, this review was written by an inorganic chemist (BJJ) and a biochemist (HVJ) who both have found themselves in the position of needing to learn and teach bioinorganic chemistry.
