At MINExpo 2004, Siemens Industrial Solutions & Services Group will announce two new technologies for surface mine operators: a standardized IGBT drive platform and the Midas data monitoring system, which uses a wireless radio link to gather data for trending and analysis. As an extension of the company's SIMINE integrated solutions system, the single drive platform (for powering shovels, haul trucks, and draglines) has the potential to substantially reduce costs associated with operations, training, maintenance, and support. The system is based on proven Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) technology that provides low conduction and switching losses with high reliability, ruggedness and tolerance of overloads in switching power supplies and motor control. Siemens incorporates analog front end (AFE) technology with IGBTs, allowing this common platform to be integrated into both OEM and retrofit applications for AC or DC motor control, air or water cooled.
