Engineers have the "training, skills and acumen" to help Canada meet the challenges of the new economy, Jon Gerrard, secretary of state, science research and development, said in a speech at the Canadian Academy of Engineering's (CAE) recent annual meeting. "I think you are well positioned to advance the commercialization of basic research into activities, products and services that will produce economic and social benefits for Canadians," he told 55 fellows of the academy. The Canadian Academy of Engineering is an honorary society dedicated to bringing the engineering perspective to issues of national importance.
