摘要

This paper starts with a detailed outline of the present day continuous casting technologies with respect to the cast product profiles and machine configurations. Emphasis has also been provided on the evolution of different casting machine configurations so as to meet the challenges of the competitive customer requirement. The paper also deliberates on the advantages of present day continuous casting equipments and technological solutions and its direct impact on the caster productivity and quality related deliverables. Further, the paper stresses on the futuristic trends related to the newly developed thin slab casting & in-line hot rolling technologies. These technologies are focused to meet the simultaneous requirement of thicker high strength micro alloyed pipe grades (in batch process) and bulk production of ultra thin hot strips (in endless mode) directly competing with the flexibility and productivity of conventional hot strip mills. Finally, the paper tries to outline the advantages of direct strip casting technology in order to meet the future market and energy conservation requirements.
