A laboratory incubation experiment was conducted to investigate the impact of Parthenium and Chomolaena as green manure and their compost on the availability of micronutrients (Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu) in paddy soils (Typic Paleustalf) collected from the areas of Mudigere, Chickmagalur district, Karnataka, India. Based on the content of total C, plant organic material was applied at the rates of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0% level of organic C. The availability of Fe content of the soil in control treatment (Mudigere soil, MS) increased with the increase in the period of flooding. At day 30 of flooding, the treatment with MS+Chromolaena compost at 2.0%C showed the highest available Fe (232.50 mg/kg). Similar result was observed with respect to DTPA Mn content in soil. The content of available Zn showed a decrease in Zn availability after flooding. DTPA extractable Cu content showed a decline in available Cu content from day 60 of flooding in MS alone. The addition of organic manures resulted to an increase of DTPA extractable Cu content in all treatments. The study revealed that submergence increased the availability of Fe and Mn and decreased Zn and Cu. The inclusion of Parthenium and Chromolaena as green manure and their compost increased the availability of micronutrients under submerged conditions.
