In horses, nasofacial fractures are often comminuteddepression fractures. Maintenance of a patent airway,prevention of ocular damage and cosmetic appearance are themain goals of surgical treatment (DeBowes 1996; Beard 1999).Most fractures are easily and successfully resolved (Beard 1999)but others may pose a challenge for the surgeon. In vivostudies of calcium sulphate (plaster of Paris) provide evidenceof osteoconductivity, absorbability and it is recommended as abone-substitute (Pietzrak and Eppley 2004).
