Gedera—Against the background of shifting currencies, we provide a summary of key developments at four of Israel's major fresh produce export companies.Currency rates have had a major impact on Israel's fruit and vegetable sectorover the past few months, in the form of a slow but steady decline in the value of the Israel shekel against the euro and a rapid and consistent depreciation of the Russian rouble, which has reduced the local population's ability to afford imported produce in a market that has become increasingly important for Israel. As a result, Israeli exporters are turning their attentions to the Far East and North America, where higher prices help to offset additional haulage costs. Israel Export Institute data forthe first half of 2015 shows there was a 13.6 per cent annual increase in the value of fresh exports to North America (US$33m).
