Like many of Europe's major markets, the Spanish grocery sector has been affected by the recent economic downturn, but the signs are the country will begin to bounce back in 2011. Hopes of a recovery in the Spanish food retail market remain reasonablystrong following a testing couple of years for retailers in the country. Reflecting a wider trend seen across many of Europe's larger consumer markets, the economic crisis has had a significant impact on grocery sales in Spain, prompting leading supermarket and convenience store operators to offer a larger number of special offers and promotions in order to prevent an exodus of price-conscious consumers bound for discount chains.
