An arranged marriage? Certainly. A marriage of convenience? Quite possibly. But the joining together of two leading names in Italian food seems to have also created a marriage built to last. There's an old saying in Italy that goes more or less as follows: "Please don't ever let the farmer know how well together cheese and pears go." Instead of heeding this old adage, however, the consortium responsible for promoting one of Italy's most prominent regional fresh produce brands, Emilia-Romagna PGI pears, has signed an innovative joint marketing deal with a leading counterpart in the Italian cheese industry, Montasio. The secret, it seems, is well and truly out.
