The authors of this paper published in August 2005 [1] stated that the children investigated and reported previously [2] and later consecutive cases were analysed in view of the hypothesis under investigation. In the group previously reported [2] twelve children were those from a study published by the Lancet [3] that was subsequently retracted. As patient selection in the paper published in the European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology [1] has potential implications on study results the Publisher brings this to the attention of the readership.
