摘要

There is a desperate need for a treatment option to manage the high proportion of prostate cancer (PCa) with clinically low risk of progression that is currently detected [1 ]. Active surveillance (AS) has been proposed with regard to this aim. However, despite growing interest in its rationale and despite its endorsement by scientific societies in their guidelines [2,3], AS is still in its infancy and requires adequate validation before wide dissemination [4].
