The management of partial- and full-thickness skin wounds can be a challenging task in avian practice, depending on the species affected, the location and age of the wound, the presence of underlying or concurrent disease and client compliance. For proper -wound assessment and dressing changes general anesthesia or, less preferably, manual restraint is necessary. To reduce stress on the patient, wound rechecks and dressing changes should be kept to a minimum. The classic approach to the management of partial- or full-thickness skin wounds using wet to dry bandages requires daily bandage changes and thus in-clinic management of the patient. A considerable financial burden for the client is also generated.
