Zhang et al., recently, published a meta-analysis concerning the susceptibility to diabetes mellitus (DM) and genetic polymorphisms of glutathione-S-transferase Ml {GSTM1; 0M1M: 138350) and Tl (GS7T3; OMIM: 600436) (Yalin et al., 2007). In the present report, a number of criticisms to their work are presented.First, in Table 1 of the abovementioned article, the authors referred to works in which the type of DM was not exactly diagnosed or diagnosed as type 1 DM. If Zhang et al. (2013) were to evaluate the association between all types of DM, other studies should have been included in their meta-analysis. Considering the fact that types 1 and 2 DM have different genetic backgrounds, it seems reasonable that only one type of DM be included in the meta-analysis.
