摘要

Mid esophageal traction diverticulum is an uncommonfinding at endoscopy. Patients with this abnormality generally are asymptomatic. Mid esophageal diverticula are thought to be caused by mediastinal disease processes in which inflammation and lymphadenopathy cause retraction of segments of the pliable esophagus. Rarely,extension of this inflammatory process into adjacent lung, lymph nodes, or blood vessels results in pneumonia, bronchoesophageal fistulas, or GI bleeding. As well, ulceration of the diverticular mucosa is a rare but important cause of bleeding. This report describes a case of an intrathoracic, mid esophageal diverticulum with a bleedingulcer. The diagnosis and the treatment of esophageal diverticula are reviewed. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a case of a bleeding intrathoracic esophageal diverticulum in which the bleeding was successfully controlled endoscopically.
