SINCE this issue will be distributed at GeoDrilling 2008, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all exhibitors and delegates at the show. At the time of going to press, there were just under 100 exhibitor stands booked at the event and expectations were that delegate numbers would be higher than ever before. And that is not surprising given the extended speaker line-up, which we hope will educate and inform (as well as even entertain) visitors to the event. The first two seminar sessions on the first day at the East of England Showground promise much. In the session on ground investigation, chaired by Prof Barry Clarke, professor of geotechnical engineering at Newcastle University, Prof Chris Clayton, professor of infrastructure engineering at Southampton University, will be speaking on recent work by the Site Investigation Steering Group. In the same session, BRE's Dr John Powell and consultant David Norbury will provide an overview of European geotechnical standards (Eurocode 7). Jim Cook, group director at Buro Happold, will round off that seminar with his views on best practice and driving improvements in site investigations for successful geotechnical design.
