Local cement firms are pouring cash into new plants in an investment bonanza never before seen in the sector, competing with foreign giants in a fierce battle for control of one of the world's fastest growing construction markets. Led by Shah, the largest cement manufacturer, companies are installing new clinker grinding plants worth around 280m US dollars that will double the country's production capacity to over 30Mt/yr.They are bolstered by the fact that the cement sector grew by a record 20% year-on-year in 2009 and 2010 and the fact that the five multinational cement giants operating in the country have suspended their expansion plans there.
