Soil quality is not an absolute concept: the puality of a soil, in terms of fitness for use, is dependent upon the purpose the soil serves. Soil functions include: agri-cultural land,natural habitats, building and construction sites and industrial sites. Moreover, soils serve as a matrix for other resources (e.g. groundwater). The suit-ability of a soil to fulfil a speific purpose is determined by manydifferent aspects that can be characterized by chemical, physical and biological parameters.
