摘要

The suppression of fescue Festuca arundinacea toxicosis in grazing cattle by sprinkling pasture with the commercially-produced brown seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum is discussed on the basis of findings of research teams in Texas Tech and Virginia Tech(USA). The endophytic fungus Neotyphodium coenophialum associated with fescue swards were found to decrease antioxidant activity in grazing steers. In comparison, adding seaweed to the crop appeared to increase antioxidant activities of both the crop andthe grazing animal. Seaweed treatment of pasture results in the production of fortified forage from which humans may also benefit.
