In Nepal, flowers used to be produced only for local consumption, but since last year there is also rose export. Only one grower is active in this business and it is doubtful whether others will follow. What can you expect from roses produced in the Himalayas, which are known as the roof of the world? Some would probably expect massive buds; even bigger than those from the Andes because of the higher altitude, which could make the conditions for big buds even better. To waken you from that dream: this is not the case. The only exporting rose farm in Nepal is situated in the suburbs of the capital Kathmandu, at an altitude of 1,300 metres and the buds are medium sized.
