European Union member-state environmental ministers on act. 14 almost unanimously called on the European Commission to draw up standard criteria that they could use to ban or restrict the cultivation of biotech varieties. Current proposals stipulate that the opt?out rationale may not relate to health or the environment, which underpin the EU approvals process, but they don't specify what grounds may legally be given.
