One unfortunate consequence of the economic turmoil in the oil industry has been the interruption to an ongoing transformation of the land seismic survey business and its operations. The emergence of mega-channel surveys and cable-less acquisition technology seemed indicative of a new spring for equipment suppliers and contractors. R&D initiatives were showing promising signs of coalescing to address some of the longstanding complaints of disgruntled oil company customers in terms of the cost, logistical complexity, duration and quality of land surveys.
