摘要

On a global scale, wood is used extensively as a feedstock for material use and for energy generation. In regards to environmental implications, there will primarily be a need for climate mitigation measures and securing of energy supply, both at the national and international level. An increased energetic use of wood can help to fulfil these obligations in the future. The aim of the following statements is to compare wood supply and wood demand for Germany and at the global scale under present conditions and expected future developments. According to the available statistics, it can be shown that the wood demand cannot be met with the statistically recorded logging of wood. However, taking into account diffuse sources (e. g. wood from landscape conservation, waste wood, logging remains), the present balance is neutral. In the future, a growing gap between wood supply and wood demand is expected. To fill this gap, while simultaneously contributing sustainably to the energy and economic system, additional wood resources need to be developed. As this requires a certain time in planning to become productive in relevant dimensions, the necessary measures need to be initiated as soon as possible.
