Not every produce segment has been affected by the recession that the U.S. economy is stmggUng through, and some sectors have been almost unaffected by the situation. Organic produce, which is often purchased by customers that strongly believe in organic principles, saw increased sales and penetration in 2010 over the previous year. More than 41 percent of parents in the United States said they purchased more organics in 2010, up 10 percentage points from parents reporting increased purchases in 2009, according to a report sponsored by the Organic Trade Association. The survey, conducted in August, profiled organic purchasers and their buying habits. The 2010 survey is the second year for the report, titled U.S. Families' Organic Attitudes and Beliefs.
