The 9th International Mycological Congress (IMC9: the Biology of Fungi) was held in Edinburgh, Scotland during the period 1e6 August 2010 (Fig. 1). The International Mycological Congresses represent the biggest international conferences on fungal biology. The first International Mycological Congress was in 1971, and since then they have been mostly held every 4 y. The recent IMC9 attracted 1593 delegates from 83 different countries, and w330 delegates gave oral presentations in Symposia, Special Interest Groups and Nomenclature sessions. In addition, there were w1200 posters presented at the meeting (Read, 2010).
