A framework for economic impact analysis of sustainable development activities is used to assess the impact of the North American Waterfowl Management Plan (NAWMP) in the Canadian prairies. Estimates of employment and income impacts in Manitoba areprovided based on a regional input-output model with data for 1990-94. Economic impacts and indicators of net economic benefits are summarized for communities, agriculture and habitat provision. The results indicate that significant employment and incomeimpacts have been generated in rural Manitoba communities and in Canada. In addition, positive annual net farm income changes have been generated. Comparison of the job creation impacts of the NAWMP and the Canada-Manitoba Infrastructure Works programme, show that the ratio of direct job creation per dollar 1 million (22) for NAWMP is almost double the ratio for the Infrastructure Works programme (12).
