The structure of the Fun Flon area (Manitoba andSaskatchewan) has been examined through mapping ofmesoscopic and macroscopic structures in both the Ca. 1900 MaFun Flon arc assemblage volcanic basement and theunconformably overlying (or fault juxtaposed) ca. 1845 MaMissi Group continental sedimentary cover sequence. The FlinFlon and Callinan volcanogenic massive sulphide orebodiesoccur within the basalt-dominated basement. The contactbetween the basement and the cover rocks was investigated indetail during this study. The cover sequence records threeprincipal fold- and foliation-forming events. All deformationobserved within the cover sequence is correlative withdeformation observed within the volcanic basement. Significantlow-angle overlap of basement on cover is attributed todevelopment of a D_1 north-verging nappe and subsequentthrust displacement on the overturned basement-cover contact.North-verging D_1 structures provide evidence for a distinctpost-Missi Group deformation event that preceded regional,southwestward D_2 thrusting at peak metamorphic conditionsacross the southeastern Trans-Hudson Orogen. D_2 deformationproduced closed to tight, west-verging overturned folds with awell-developed axial planar cleavage and a pervasive extensionlineation. D_3 deformation generated open folds of the S_2 anda weakly to moderately developed spaced axial planar S_3cleavage. D_3 and D_4 deformations produced sinistral-oblique,brittle-ductile reverse faults that offset all older features.
