Upgrading of Ilmenite Using KOH Sub-molten Salt Process Assisted by Mechanical Activation

摘要

A new method combining mechanical activation, alkali decomposition, and acid leaching is recommended for the upgrading of ilmenite concentrate. From the results of the tests described, it was shown that the rate of both decomposition and dissolution of ilmenite concentrate increased considerably following mechanical activation. Under optimum activation conditions, decomposition processing time can be reduced more than 65%. Activation also led to better leaching performance. The time necessary for complete dissolution of Ti and Fe decreased more than 80% from 120 to 15min. These results reveal that this new process is more appropriate than other existing methods for upgrading ilmenite and also in complying with industrial requirements.
