Disappointing US and European economic releases, together with further equity market volatility and growing concerns over war with Iraq, have put heavy pressure on copper in August and so far in September. Lacking support from consumer buying in the traditional summer lull, fund selling drove LME cash quotes down to 1,455 dollars/tonne in the first week of September, the lowest official settlement price since January 4.
