At the 2010 AMEE meeting in Glasgow, Cees van der Vleuten and I organized a symposium on what the curriculum of the future would look like and papers based on the presentations in that session formed the basis of a special themed section for Medical Teacher. That session and the subsequent publications were well received and so the second symposium of what is likely to be a trilogy (future assessment will be the symposium theme at the AMEE 2012 meeting in Lyon) was held at the AMEE conference in Vienna in 2011. The theme of the symposium was delivering tomorrow's curriculum and papers based on some of the presentations at that event are published in this issue of Medical Teacher.
