On the optimization of electronhyphen;emitting arrays

摘要

The field emission current anticipated from a planar array of brushlike protrusions of needlehyphen;shaped conducting metallic pins embedded in an insulating dielectric substrate is studied as a function of the array packing density with pin height, pin crosshyphen;sectional area, pin tip geometry, pin base geometry, pin spacing, and pin anode spacing as parameters. Spheroidal models of the emitters are presented to analyze the total macroscopic current emitted by the pin array before and after arcing. An optimum array packing density to maximize the total macroscopic current is shown to exist and is determined for various typical pin heights in the range 4ndash;40 mgr;m.
