The effect of alumina on the liquidustemperatures of fayalite slags at iron saturation has beeninvestigated experimentally. Equilibrated synthetic slags werequenched, and the samples were subsequently examined usingoptical microscopy and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA).The isotherms in the fayalite primary field and boundary lineswere determined, and the results were presented in the form ofpseudo-ternary phase diagrams of "FeO"-CaO-SiO2 with 0, 2, 4,and 6 wt pct A1203 in the slag. The experimental results showthat the alumina addition expands the fayalite primary phasefield and decreases the liquidus temperatures in the fayaliteprimary phase field.
