ABB will present its new generation of cold rolling mill automation. This new approach meets customer needs for quality and productivity enhancing solutions packaged in a unified automation framework. An integrated advanced solution suite was developed setting the future industry standard in cold rolling for product quality and throughput. The use of ABB's Industrial~(IT) permits mill wide uniform automation, seamlessly integrating advanced solutions and the process control system. The advanced solution suite consists of:-Optimize~(IT) for cold rolling mills-Control~(IT) for technological control in cold rolling mills-Advise~(IT) for cold rolling mills-Simulate~(IT) for cold rolling millsOptimize~(IT) provides solutions for online and offline pass schedules and set-up to improve and optimize the rolling mill operation. Core solutions are physical models to enable pass schedules and set-up calculation for all different kinds of mill configurations and material types. An offline environment enables estimating in advance the necessary installed power and roll force for the plant and other aspects of the rolling process. Also throughput and mill productivity can be calculated. The online PC-based solution makes it possible, besides the pass schedule and the set-up calculation, to take into consideration the current behavior of the mill by advanced adaptation methods.
