TNO, the Dutch organization for research and innovation, and Alliander, the company that manages part of the energy grid of The Netherlands, have founded the Flexiblepower Alliance Network (FAN). FAN aspires to develop an open standard in dialogue with producers, consumers and distributors of energy and energy-related products. FAN's aim is to adapt the smart grid to current and projected developments of the global energy market as efficiently and cost effectively as possible.
