The Arizona copper industry pumped 6.3 billion dollars into the Arizona economy in 1994, according to a study conducted by the Western Economic Analysis Center. The economic contribution by the copper industry is calculated as money expended by the industry that recirculates through Arizona house-holds, businesses and government agencies. "Direct contributions to the economy of the state In 1994 were 1.53 billion dollars, about 3 percent above the preceding year," said David C. Ridinger, president of the Arizona Mining Association (AMA).
