A decade or so ago, China made the decision to begin moving a large portion of its population into the cities. So the government began building towns, apartments, shopping malls, amusement parks and the associated infrastructure needs. That decision was part of what sparked China's huge growth surge that has it increasing its share of consumption of the world's mined minerals, as well as the country's appetite for property acquisitions outside of its borders.
