SME's Education Sustainability Committee has developed a program to address the long-term challenges that threaten the sustainability of U.S. mining and mineral processing/extractive metallurgy academic degree granting programs. This committee has formulated meaningful, actionable recommendations to mitigate these challenges. It has also quantified the underlying factors that have led to the dramatic decline in the number of U.S. academic programs during the last three decades.
