Women in Mining (WIM) held its annual national meeting in Sparks, NV May 19-21, hosted by the Nevada Chapter. During the three-day event, WIM also celebrated its 30th anniversary. The meeting was attended by more than 30 members and guests from across the nation. Russell Fields, director of Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, and Tim Crowley, president of the Nevada Mining Association, spoke at the opening reception about the mining industry's outreach activities in the state of Nevada. The Nevada Mining Association also donated a 373-g (12-oz) silver bar to the event for a raffle. The group enjoyed a VIP reception and tour of the Keck Museum at the University of Nevada-Reno. At the closing banquet, Greg Vaught, New-mont Mining's "Safety Troubadour," entertained WIMers with safety-related songs including MSHA Blues and Driving Faster Multi-Tasker.
